Greetings Fellow Georgia Council for the Social Studies (GCSS) Members,
I come to you as your 2024 GCSS President to give you our vision and goals for this year. As our current mission and vision states we advocate for, support, and celebrate the advancement of quality social studies teaching to prepare Georgia students to be knowledgeable, effective decision makers and engaged citizens in a globally interdependent world.
This year marks our 60th year as an organization! We will fervently develop and offer our members social studies resources, professional workshops, and communication of additional social studies program opportunities from our partners. This year, we are committed to strengthening and clarifying how our organization’s leaders will support teachers and students of the various social studies disciplines. This includes offering an engaging and empowering annual conference in October which will provide a wide variety of resources for social studies teachers, leaders, and curriculum developers; sponsoring our annual State Social Studies Fair event in April; and working with our state organizational partners and sponsors to provide opportunities for social studies educators in remote regions of Georgia. We also are discussing more opportunities for GCSS members to contribute their talents as local social studies resource providers and curriculum specialists.
As your Board, we are working diligently and collaboratively to ensure we reach this year’s goals. GCSS will continue the mission and vision of our organization as we celebrate 60 years of leading, learning, and growing as an essential part of the social studies network in our great state of Georgia.
